With the development of China’s piano art, piano etudes, as an important part of piano music, have undergone nearly a century of creativity, gradually forming a vivid national artistic style. From the initial stage in the early 20th century, through the rapid development after 1949, to the comprehensive innovations of the reform and opening-up period, the creation of piano etudes reflects the profound changes in society, culture and artistic ideas. The purpose of this study is to explore the historical development path and artistic characteristics of Chinese piano etudes, analyse the influence of social changes and cultural trends of different historical periods on their creation, and reveal the unique role of these works in the nationalisation process of Chinese piano music. The object of the study is the process of historical development and related features of Chinese piano etudes. The subject is Chinese piano etudes. In order to study this topic, the paper uses the methods of theoretical analysis and comparative research, within the framework of which a comprehensive analysis of the creative context, formal features and artistic style of various stages of the development of Chinese etudes was made. The development of this genre can be divided into four main stages, each of which is distinguished by its own stylistic and technical characteristics: from the early imitation of Western works to the later incorporation of elements of traditional Chinese music, which led to the creation of etudes with distinctly national features. It is proved that Chinese piano etudes integrated elements of traditional Chinese music and Western musical techniques, which allowed them to gradually form a unique artistic style and develop continuously throughout different historical periods.
