The article presents a comparative analysis of the similarities and differences in the structure of boys' and girls' self-attitudes at the initial stage of higher education. It is established that first-year students are characterized by susceptibility of the «Self» to the influences of circumstances and poor self-regulation. They are prone to superficial self-image, lack of reflection and introspection skills. At the same time, young men are characterized by a selective attitude to their personality: they demonstrate confidence in familiar situations, and when unexpected difficulties arise, they doubt their abilities. Freshmen girls, in the face of a positive attitude towards themselves, show a desire to change something about their personality or appearance and are often dissatisfied with themselves and their level of attractiveness to the opposite gender. Differences are also found in vocational self-determination: young men demonstrate unconsciousness of the choice of specialization, while girls, on the contrary, for the most part clearly formulate their future career goals.
