Features of Athletic and Academic Identities among Student-Athletes

The article analyzes the features of sports and academic identities of student-athletes receiving secondary education. The research was conducted with the following methods: The Life Orientation Test (LOT), Subjective Happiness Scale, Satisfaction with Life Scale and the author's questionnaire for self-assessment of identities. As a result, it was found that at the stage of secondary education, athletic identity is more prominently expressed among student-athletes and significantly influences their psychological well-being. Life saturation, emo-tional experiences, self-perception as a strong individual, and the ability to manage one’s life independently are all interrelated with athletic identity. In contrast, academic identity does not correlate with these factors. These findings underscore the importance of psychological support for student-athletes and highlight the necessity of developing programs that integrate athletic and academic activities.
