Witticism as a playful communicative act

The author deals with witticism from the structural-semantic and pragmalinguistic points of view: as an utterance with a comic effect and as a variety of playful communicative act respectively. The authors’ observations are provided by the analysis of the witticisms from the spontaneous playful dialogue in English.
