From the House of Pioneers to the House of Creativity: The Transformation of Supplementary Education Institutions in Ulan-Ude at the Beginning of the 21st Century

A fruitful solution to the current challenges of supplementary education for children and adolescents is impossible without analyzing and understanding its history. Using examples from extracurricular institutions in Ulan-Ude, this article examines the transformation of the supplementary education model that took place at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. Particular attention is paid to the crucial role of additional education in ensuring the competitiveness of the individual, society and the state in the transition from an industrial to a post-industrial information society. Using a rich factual base, as well as personal research experience, the author emphasizes the diversity of forms and methods of conducting extracurricular work during the period under review. In conclusion, the author comes to the conclusion that, despite the difficulties and contradictions of the transition period, in general the transformation of the supplementary education system in Buryatia proceeded quite satisfactorily.
