The purpose of this article is to present the features of the development of diplomatic interpretation in the period of Modern Times (1492-1914). As a result of the study of (foreign) specialized literature, its subsequent selection and processing, an analysis of the specifics of the communicative environment, duties and status of interpreters in Europe and on other continents during the Modern period was made and a characteristic of the value of the chronotopic determinant in the formation of diplomatic translation was given. Based on the description of the constantly changing features of diplomatic translation, the events that had the strongest impact on it are presented, as well as the factors that played a significant role in the formation of today's model of diplomatic interpretation (for example, the foundation of academies and schools of interpretation, the establishment of secretariats of court translators or departments and translation bureaus, the drafting and establishment of legislative acts regulating translation activities, etc.). The necessity of additional research of diplomatic translation is proved and the relevance of the research question is confirmed.
