From Perrault to Tsiskaridze: Christian motifs in the performing arts on the example of the romantic ballet «Giselle»

This article analyzes the art of outstanding Russian dancers of the XX century, the creators of the role of Albert in the ballet «Giselle»: V. Nijinsky, B. Shavrov, K. Sergeev, N. Dolgushin, M. Baryshnikov, F. Ruzimatov and N. Tsiskaridze. The author focuses on the christian motives that are born in the performance of these artists. The author analyzes the origins of this tradition in the French ballet theater of the 19th century in the work of J. Perrault and L. Petipa. The article is based on the cultural and historical method using the method of comparative analysis, the theoretical and methodological basis of the research was the work of prominent ballet historians V. Krasovskaya, Y. Slonimsky, A. Guest.
