The paper presents the findings of an expert study on the academic environment in two Saratov universities training students as psychologists. The research shows that the academic environment in the educational institutions training students majoring in Psychology is of a career type and focuses mainly on external issues (self-promotion, corporate culture) while the academic process is neglected. The study identifies the following differences: personal interests and values of students are the priority for the classic university whereas the engineering university focuses on public values. The author compares the emotional, cognitive, practical and action components of students’ attitude towards the university’s academic environment. The study reveals that the action component is not formed in all surveyed students majoring in Psychology regardless of the type of the academic environment.
