The article aims at the aspects of daily life, traditional economic practices, lived expe-rience, and worldview of the Buryat people are reflected in idioms. The unique mani-festation of elements of material culture in fixed expressions reveals a close connec-tion between the material and the spiritual. The meaning of idioms is not a simple sum of the meanings of the individual words, as is the case with free word combinations. Therefore, analyzing idiomatic expressions requires a deeper and more focused look into the specifics of everyday life, traditional livelihoods, perceptions of the world, be-liefs of the people — native speakers of the language — and their relationship to these elements. By using objects from everyday life as imagery in fixed phrases, the Buryats highlight their most distinctive and vivid features and modes of use. The material pre-sented in this study and its interpretation require reference to the history of the ethnic group and to both its spiritual and material culture. This places the subject within the scope of ethnolinguistics, which lies at the intersection of linguistics, folklore studies, ethnology, and ethnography. The vast volume of idiomatic material present in the lan-guage cannot be fully covered in a single article. There is a pressing need for further ethnolinguistic research into Buryat idioms in Mongolia.
