The aim of the study is to analyse the theme of "memory of Russia" on the material of the stories of the writer of Russian "eastern" abroad A. Haydock. The collection "Stars of Manchuria", which has been based on the writer's personal spiritual experience, as well as some real historical events, in which the writer participated, is considered in the article. The collection testifies to deep reflections of the writer on historical and social problems of his time. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the approach to the study of how the theme of "memory of Russia" was embodied in Haydock's stories. The stories in this collection accurately reflect the life of Russian émigrés in China, conveying their tragic experiences during the Russian and Chinese civil wars and their thoughts and emotions, revealing the spiritual world of émigrés and raising important problems of their time, and these reflections enrich both Russian and Chinese literature of the 20th century. The writer showed different aspects of the tragic memory of emigrants: in the story "The Madness of the Yellow Desert" the "madness" of war was revealed; in the story "The Temple of Dreams" the deep connection of all world cultures was shown, and simultaneously the homesickness and inevitability of the impending "gathering" of national culture - the historical return of all Russian people to Russia was displayed. A. Haydock was an objective deep thinker who had his own unique view of the events of the Revolution and the Civil War and the future of Russia. "Memory of Russia", constantly present in the minds of the heroes of works and the author, was a kind of point of reference to assess the events described, maintained the spiritual connection of emigrants with their homeland.
