Patriarch Alexy I: the issue of his education

In this article, the reader will learn about the personality of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy I through the prism of his schooling in the home of a noble family. The way he was raised played a key role in his education. While observing various vows of obedience in the Russian Church, His Holiness always emphasized the special importance and role of enlightenment in the formation of the personality of the future clergyman. The Patriarch had a special love for the Moscow Theological Academy - the preeminent center for the preparation of spiritual leaders not only of the Russian, but also of other fraternal Churches. In the course of researching this topic, the author studied the words, speeches, and sermons of the Patriarch, which were published in the Journal of the Moscow Patriarchate , the official publication of the Russian Orthodox Church. We focused on those works in which he shared thoughts on the meaning of education. The author also consulted memoirs and autobiographical sources, which more broadly characterize the very personality of His Holiness. The role of Patriarch Alexy I in the education and enlightenment of the Church, his significant contribution to the development of the Moscow Theological Academy are the subject of this article.
