The topic is important because modern society makes certain demands to the system of higher education expressed in the social order which is formulated in normative documents regulating the system of education. These demands mean that the system of higher education should graduate not only highly qualified specialists but also developed citizens of their country who can effectively function in the modern society, independently make decisions in the situations of uncertainty and take responsibility for them. The article aims to develop and theoretically substantiate pedagogical conception of formation of social maturity of students of institutes of higher education. The methods of structural, functional, comparative analysis and studying of experience are used to achieve the goal. As a result the term “pedagogical conception of formation of social maturity of students of institutes of higher education” is defined; the structure and contents of the conception in question are developed; its functions are established.
