The article discusses the importance in modern conditions the competence approach, according to federal state educational standards, the study of the theory and history of art future specialists artistic profile. Emphasizes the need to create specific psychological and pedagogical conditions conducive to the development of the visual modality and students overall visual culture as the main component of art education. Identified current trends in the transfer of information as a predominantly visual, as reflected in the complex modern methods of contributing to the formation of visual culture in art college profile in the course of studying the discipline "History of Art". Analyzed guidelines, allowing not only enrich the teaching learning process of this discipline, but also fully realize the professional competence of students to continue their professional activity profile.
