In the proposed article, the author, E. Rosenblieh, examines the process of the formation and imposition of charges to a Pope Eugene IV by the Basel Council as the basis for the displacement of the pope from his post. As one of the key moments in this process of the formation of accusatory complex of articles by the researcher represented the historical source the closest to the described events - the register of legal proceedings (manuscript No. 1511), dated by July 1437. The focus of the article is on the process of gathering evidence against the pope and the jurisdictional rivalry between the conciliar institution and the pope, what became the reason for the establishment of the trial of the pontiff. E. Rosenblieh, within the framework of this article, widely elucidates the process of gathering evidence, imposing of charges against Pope by fathers of the council, the process of work of specially created commissions, and the political component of all this process. The fundamental point, during the trial of the Pope, was the fact of the repeated violation by the Pope of the conciliar legislation, for which by the special commissions were called witnesses which were testified under 150 accusatory articles. This process, according to the author, laid as the foundation for the new paradigm of the pontifical heresy. At the base of her research E. Rosenblieh had put not published yet, but widely quoted by the historians of the papacy, the Latin manuscript 1511, stored in the French National Library. In the future, Madame Rosenblieh plans to publish this historical source. The author, it seems, through this study, not only introduces a new, interesting, angle of consideration of this historical source, but also expresses some researcher’s doubts about the legal validity and justification of the crimes incriminated by the Assembly of council to Pope Eugene IV. The question of the sufficiency of the juridical basis for the displacement of the pontiff from his post remains open, but the reasons for this juridical process seem sufficiently clear: the subjection of the authority of the pontifical power to conciliar decrees. The pope, vice versa, wanted the opposite - to restore the authority of his power, weakened by schism. This study, in our opinion, represents the great interest to a wide range of researchers of the history of the Church, researchers of the history of the papacy, historians of the Middle Ages and the council’s movement, and to other specialists who are interested in this subject but are not able to get acquainted with the original text of the represented article. In order to facilitate the search for the literature and sources used by the author and to avoid inaccuracies in bibliographic information, in the proposed translation of the article from French the original references of E. Rosenblieh were retained.
