Translation of St. Augustine of Hippo's "XVI questions on the Gospel of Matthew"

The article presents the translation from Latin of the treatise of blessed Augustine, bishop of Hippo - “XVI questions on the gospel of Matthew”. The introduction provides information about the literary genre of the treatise, publications, and dating, also discusses the structure of the work. A translation of the treatise is published, in which St. Augustine interprets the difficult places of the Gospel of Matthew, simultaneously solving the urgent problems of the African Church. On the basis of the Holy Scripture, St. Augustine explains to Christians in North Africa the meaning of the term confessio, rethinking its ancient understanding. The treatise is transmitted in the attitude of the bishop of Hippo to heretics, schismatics, and bad Christians. Also expressed the opinion of St. Augustine and St. Jerome of Stridon on the question about the brothers of Jesus Christ, which serves to overcome the heresy of antidicomarianits
