Translation of zoological metaphors: retention of form and meaning

Animal names (zoonims) and zoological metaphors are frequently used to characterize people, their feelings, behaviours etc. However, their semantics, collocations, stylistic and cultural connotations may differ in different languages and cultures. The paper discusses lexical-semantic transformations in translation of zoological metaphors in fiction with regard to the preservation of form and meaning.
