Modern Chinese society is transforming under the influence of external and internal factors. New living conditions determine the need for changes in the educational sphere as well. In the context of social innovations, the Chinese Academy of Art realizes the training of future sculptors meeting the demands of society by updating the educational concept and curriculum. Project-based learning and the interdisciplinary use of modern 3D printing and virtual reality technologies form the basis of their transformation. The introduction of an innovative curriculum combining an orientation towards independence and initiative of students and the priority of practical training allowed the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts to significantly improve the professional level of its graduates at the present stage, to ensure their competitiveness in employment. The experience of this higher educational institution in the field of art serves as an important guideline for the reform of Chinese art education in general.
