The analysis of Russian and international research on dyscalculia identifies the main reasons for difficulties in developing mathematical concepts among preschool and primary school students. The paper deals with the need to prevent numeracy disorders in children from an early age and discusses the main causes of their failures to master elementary mathematical concepts. The study proposes the areas of correction tested in educational institutions and the forms of interaction with children aimed at preventing predisposition to various types of dyscalculia. The author concludes that new research on compensatory solutions and reserves of the child’s body should be carried out to boost the development of basic arithmetic literacy.
