Materials end methods. The Federal State Non-Profit Institution of Russian Scientific Center of Radiology and Roentgenology of the Russian Ministry of Health diagnosed and treated 214 women 2002 to 2011. The study only covered serous ovarian cancer. The average age of the patients was 58.8 years. We divided the patients into 2 groups. Group A included 68 patients with localized cancer without clinical evidence of ascites (Ia, Ib, IIa, IIb). Group B included 146 patients with ascites induced by ovarian cancer, with extensive lesions of visceral and parietal peritoneum, with metastasis to the greater omentum (IIc, IIIc). There also was a separate group of 2420 postmenopausal patients who underwent CA-125 screening and ultrasound examination of the lower pelvis. Conclusion. Relatively efficient early diagnosis of ovarian cancer includes the following: CA-125 testing for high risk group patients (enlarged appendage syndrome) 3-4 times per year, or using modern ultrasound systems to evaluate blood flow and vascular architectonics, or a combination of both, CA-125 testing and thorough ultrasound examination. A persistent (within 4-6 weeks) increase in CA-125 levels (> 35ED/ml) in postmenopausal women requires an in-depth examination. Any increase in the postmenopausal ovary size is an indication for surgical treatment.
