The development of technical documentation gives a detailed idea of the entire manufacturing process, which means that this job function presents the necessary specifics of a particular engineering specialty. Knowledge of a foreign language appears to be the necessary requirement to perform the chosen job function, and this knowledge should be gained by means of the discipline “Foreign language for specific purposes”. Today, the existing courses of foreign language for specific purposes do not prepare students for the performance of job functions, thus, future graduates are not ready to apply knowledge of a foreign language when developing technical documentation, and this job function covers all the specifics of an engineering profession. The ability to use a foreign language in the development of technical documentation allows solving other professional problems where the use of a foreign language is necessary. As a result, the analysis of the problem of future engineers’ foreign language training when working with technical documentation led to contradictions at different levels, which proves the relevance and importance of the problem under the investigation and helps develop a plan to effectively solve this problem.
