Multifunctionality of the landscape descriptions in the book “Sakhalin island” by A.P. Chehov

The article deals with the first consideration of the multifunctionality of the landscape descriptions in the book “Sakhalin island” by A.P. Chehov. The analysis helped to reveal the following functions: chronotopical. psychological, social and the author’s presence. There is substantiated the idea that the landscape descriptions in “Sakhalin island” fulfill simultaneously several functions that is connected with the ideological and thematic purpose of the writer and the peculiarities of the spatial and temporal organization of the book of essays.
