Free access
The article is devoted to the study of the perception of political parties in modern Russian society and the possibilities of their transformation into an effective institution of democracy. The main content of the work is a political science analysis of sociological research aimed at determining the attitude of the population towards political parties in order to identify the possibilities of their preservation. As a result of the analysis of empirical data and theoretical conclusions, the author formulates the hypothesis that it is possible to preserve parties as a functional political institution in Russia provided they are transformed. At the present stage of the development of information technologies and the online political space, the transformation of political parties should represent a modification of their current state from an instrument of struggle for power to a mechanism for representing the interests of various social groups, corresponding to modern network technologies. Using computer technology in party activities, people are given the opportunity to become involved in the development of institutions of direct democracy. People will be able to participate in party activities actively, participate in political decision-making, and in electoral processes. By transforming parties into an instrument for representing the interests of citizens, it will be possible to take a step forward towards the development of democracy in its modern, networked form.
