In the Russian victimology literature, there has been little discussion about the transformation from a victim to a criminal. Based on up-to-date international studies, the authors analyze the background to such a transformation. The Russian victimology mainly focuses on women, children, and teenagers rather than male victims. This determines the necessity to study male victims from the perspective of the role of victimity in the criminal offense. The research looks at the modern international victimology theories such as childhood trauma accumulation, delayed affect phenomenon, strain theory, and the theory of hegemonic masculinity and aggression. Early international studies have demonstrated that male victims are characterized by the subnormal perception of their masculinity. At the same time, recent studies have shown that hypermasculinity plays a crucial role in the predisposition to criminal behavior. Therefore, the notions of hypermasculinity and victimity are of high interest to scientists in terms of analysis and further research.
