Adaptation techniques in the translation of a fantasy novel (based on translations of the novel “Dune”)

Science fiction is one of the most difficult genres of literature to translate due to a large number of culture-specific terms in the text. Ensuring communicative equivalence between the source and target texts requires the translator to be able to apply a wide range of adaptation techniques. This paper examines the strategies of foreignisation and domestication applied in the translation of Frank Herbert’s novel “Dune” into Russian.
