The article deals with the strategy of unreliable narration that is widely used in contemporary fiction. Readers of such a text do not get a full picture of the events or characters described and have to depend on their own perception and expectations. In translation it is vital to save this uncertainty. However, in some cases translators may face difficulties, just as with the novel ‘Gentlemen & Players' by Joanne Harris.
