The translator's commentary as the metatext (on S. Townsend's novel “The secret diary of Adrian Mole”)

The article is devoted to the investigation of metacommunicative features in the Russian translation of S. Townsend’s novel “The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 ?”. The author analyses translator’s commentaries to the novel, their functions, form, structure, content, and types. Special emphasis is placed on the issue of compensation for the gaps in the background knowledge of translation recipients by means of translator’s commentaries.
