The article contains justification of the existence of the psychological phenomenon of "social and psychological comfort of the educational milieu". It shows the effectiveness of using the concept of social and psychological comfort of the educational milieu in the practical organization of the academic and educational process of a department. The author provides logical justification of the possibility to use the social and psychological comfort of the educational milieu as one of the criteria of quality assessment of education.
