Application of song content in the second foreign language classes (on the example of French songs)

The article discusses the use of song content at French language classes. This topic has been interesting for researchers in the field of foreign language teaching methods for a long time and continues to be relevant, as the boundaries of the use of songs and music at language classes are expanding. The use of songs in foreign language lessons at schools and institutions of secondary vocational education was studied in detail. The article discusses the use of song content at the classes in high school, which, of course, determines the novelty of the chosen topic. A brief overview of the main and alternative teaching methods in which the song content can be used is given. The author defines the role of song content at French language classes. The functions and tasks of the song content are highlighted. The use of song content has not only an important educational function, but also an emotional, psychological and educational one: it creates a friendly, lyrical atmosphere, helps to understand the culture of the country which language is studied. The algorithm for the use of song content is determined. The author considers the use of song content not only in the framework of phonetic exercises, but also in grammar and vocabulary. The song material helps to fix the lexical minimum on a particular topic, to work out the grammatical material passed (tenses, etc.). The article may be interesting for teachers of the French language at all levels of education.
