The transition to the implementation of competency-based educational standards of higher medical education, the introduction of professional standards in practice and the need to take them into account when designing basic professional educational programs actualize the search for the new approaches to organizing the training process for future doctors. The result of education, expressed in general cultural, general professional and professional competencies, as well as the primary accreditation procedure as a condition for admission to professional activities after mastering the specialty programs, leads the academic community to the need for innovative approaches and technologies for the development of competencies and procedures for their assessment. The authors proposed a theoretical and methodological analysis of graphic design technology as a way of developing students’ thinking. The main tasks to be solved in the framework of the study are the theoretical justification of the concept of graphic design technology and the description of the relationship between technology and development of learning outcomes expressed in competencies. The debatable aspect of the study is a theoretical analysis of educational technology, as well as an assessment of its capabilities in the process of developing the medical students’ thinking in general and its individual types (creative and clinical ones) in particular.
