Changes in society’s requests for graduates of higher education programmes, the transition to a higher level of development of science, technological processes, society and new approaches to teaching and educating people, led to a change in educational paradigms. In practice, the expression of these processes has been the introduction of educational standards of the third generation, updated, at present, as professional ones. In the process of training doctors, the qualities that are most in demand for future professional activities, such as qualification skills, emotional intelligence and “non-technical skills” (soft skills), are highlighted. Therefore, the process of training doctors is mediated by the problem of an adequate ratio of professional and educational standards, a change in the approach to determining the content of education and the selection of technologies that ensure the achievement of the planned results of training and education. The article provides an analysis of the practical aspect of the formation of general cultural and some professional competencies. The standards for higher medical education through the implementation of graphic design technology with an “exit” to the development of “non-technical skills” provide a link between professional competencies and labor functions.
