The article considers the principle of allocation and filling in informational and professional substantial lines in discipline cycles of engineering specialties of higher education institutions. The stages of realization of substantial lines 'algorithm', 'model', 'project' in the technical discipline «Machine parts and basics of engineering» are shown. The experimental dependences of substantial lines functioning on informational and propaedeutic, study and research as well as study and project levels of complex information and educational base are developed.
