The article focuses on a theoretical analysis of the issue of the principles of developing learning materials in a foreign language course (English) for special purposes (English for Specific Purposes; hereinafter -ESP), considered by domestic and foreign specialists in the field of linguodidactics. The development of learning materials based on the principles as fundamental statements ensures the setting of targets for the educational process within the topic, the definition of the main approaches to their implementation, the selection of the content of learning materials, the methodology of the educational process involving their use. In this case, learning materials are considered as a resource addition to the basic didactic support of the educational process in the discipline. The authors draw attention to the prospects for further study of the issue of principles for the development of learning materials from the point of view of the practice of teaching a foreign language for specific purposes (ESP), taking into account the profile of an educational institution.
