Translation of conceptual metaphors in poetic texts, as well as the problem of equivalence and adequacy of literary translations has always been a focus of research in Translation Theory. This article discusses several cases of verbal representation of metaphorical models «life is a journey», « death is sleep», «death is night» and «people are plants» in the poetry of Dylan Thomas (1914-1953), and their translation into Russian. The findings of the analysis prove that an adequate translation is essential for the transfer of the author's intention, stylistics and poetic worldview, and that it serves as an important condition for a successful cross-cultural dialogue between the author and the readers.
