The problem of iron deficiency in platelet donors

The article presents the results of changes in iron metabolism in donors donating platelets by apheresis. A group of donors with low ferritin levels was identified. The relationship between a decrease in serum ferritin and an increase in donation frequency was confirmed. Depletion of iron stores was detected in a group of donors - women aged 25 to 45 years. The obtained data indicate the advisability of determining serum ferritin in regular donors of blood and its components
