Problems of singers’ work on the English lyrics of a vocal piece of music

The article is devoted to the problems connected with the quality of vocal speech: its comprehension and expression for conveying the art image of a vocal piece coded in its lyrics. The qualities are realized with the help of vocal diction. The article also describes the technical components of vocal diction such as phonetics, orthoepy, stressed and rhythmical structure assisting the imaginative side of speech, referring to any language including English. The main way of solving the problems deals with the singer’s analysis of lyrics based on the knowledge of English vocal phonetics, that is necessary to work with using the International Phonetic Alphabet and specialized dictionaries. The problems can also be solved considering the rules of vocal orthoepy. The rules refer to the pronunciation of words containing schwa vowel in unstressed syllables while singing. Learning the peculiarities of English phrases and sentences intonation structure together with the components mentioned earlier lets a singer create a convincing vocal interpretation of a musical composition.
