Nowadays the main scientific developments in the intensification of forage production are aimed at agrophytocenoses management and increasing their productivity. This can be achieved by introducing new varieties that are capable of growing with other species, choosing the optimal composition of grass mixtures, to find the most effective feed structure to improve nutrition and economic efficiency of milk production. A comparative assessment of the productivity of herbages with variable alfalfa has shown that legume-grass mixtures have a clear advantage in terms of yield. The highest yield was achieved with the introduction of meadow clover and meadow timothy into the grass mixture (8.1 t / ha of dry matter).
