The article is dedicated to the Greek professor Basil Tatakis, known in the Western science for his works on Byzantine philosophy, in which he gives a multifaceted analysis of the interrelationship between Ancient and Christian thought. The article describes his life and key works, as well as his concept “pneumatocracy” and views on the specifics of the Byzantine paideia. In particular, a number of examples show a different understanding of the ideal of philosophical “dispassion” in the context of Stoic and Christian views. In addition, a fragment of the text of B. Tatakis is given, where he reflects on how one can comprehend the ideas of Beauty, Truth and Good based on the intentions of modern consciousness. At the end of the article, a selected bibliography of B. Tatakis’ works is given.
