Data on antimicrobial prophylaxis of infectious complications after percutaneous nephrolithotomy is presented in this article. The study was conducted among 60 patients with staghorn and multiple kidney stones who underwent percutaneous nephrolithotripsy (PCNL). For prevention of infectious complications of PCNL pyobacteriophage preparation or antibiotic drug were used. Nephrostomic tubes and urethral catheters were treated with pyobacteriophage preparation for 30 minutes to hinder the formation of bacterial biofilms. The study has shown that pyobacteriophage may be used for prevention and treatment of infectious complications of PCNL as an alternative to antibiotic prophylaxis, which is of great importance considering a rising prevalence of antibiotic-resistant strains. There was no difference in body temperature at 1, 3 and 7 days after the surgery, as well as in incidence of systemic inflammatory response between two groups. Moreover, 7 days after the surgery blood count parameters (white blood cells and banded neutrophils) were back to normal in all 4 groups, which leads to an assumption that antibiotics and bacteriophage preparations have equal efficacy. Constant monitoring of microbial sensitivity to bacteriophage preparations and regular selection of bacteriophages to pathogens of urological infection. Authors declare lack of the possible conflicts of interests.
