Free access

The article examines the development trends of the largest urban agglomerations of the Russian Federation, analyzes the dynamics of their socio-economic development, and assesses the degree of its heterogeneity. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the substantiation of the phenomenon of "double inequality", manifested in intra-agglomeration differentiation of socio-economic development and the simultaneous gap between agglomerations and non-agglomeration territories of regions. The results of the study can be used in the development of strategic and territorial planning projects aimed at reducing differentiation and increasing the balance of urban agglomerations.
