Psychological difficulties experienced by convicts in communicating with the staff of the correctional institution

The author examines the results of an empirical study of the psychological difficulties experienced by convicts in the process of communicating with the staff of the correctional institution. Difficulties arising in the process of communication between staff and convicts provoke the emergence of negative social and psychological phenomena among convicts and significantly complicate the correctional process. The results of the study allow us to conclude that in the course of communication with the staff of the correctional institution convicts experience various kinds of difficulties, the main reason for which, they believe, is the disrespectful and prejudiced attitude towards them on the part of the staff. The respondents noted that employees pursue only their own goals related to obtaining the necessary information, behave rudely. This leads to the fact that convicts experience tension, anxiety and psychological discomfort, which persists even after leaving the interaction. At the same time, the convicts note that in the process of communication they seek to exert a psychological effect on employees resorting to the use of various manipulative techniques. Thus, the psychological difficulties of the convicts in communicating with the staff are also the subject to the destructive position of the convicts themselves in relation to the staff of the correctional institution.
