The article analyzes the possibilities of continuing education of teaching staff. The experience of the center of continuous pedagogical excellence of pedagogical workers in determining the basic needs of teachers of the city and region is described. The results of the study of teachers’ professional deficits are characterized. Within the framework of realization of the most diverse functions (general professional, educational and developmental) a teacher faces a wide range of problems. It is noted that the main contingent that seeks help in professional and personal self-development are teachers with 10 to 15 years of work experience and young teachers who have just come to school and are mastering pedagogical practice. Conclusion dwells upon the fact that it is these categories of specialists that are mainly targeted for the organization of psychological and pedagogical support of their activities. As part of the study and analysis of deficits in the field of general professional, educational and developmental functions of teachers and providing opportunities for their elimination using various methods and technologies, the activity of the center of continuous professional development is described. The prospectivity of this form of work with representatives of pedagogical labor is revealed.
