Qatari-American Consistency through Al Jazeera's Coverage of the Gaza War - a Mixed-Methods Study of a Sample of Al Jazeera News

Free access

This study raises the possibility of clarifying the supposed relationship between the American vision and the Qatari vision of the consequences of ending the war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas, by assuming four issues in which points of convergence between the two countries may be formed, which are: the two-state solution, the introduction of aid, a ceasefire, and a cessation of settlement activity. To address this proposal, the study relied on a mixed research approach. At the qualitative level, the critical discourse analysis approach CDA of Norman Fireclough and Teun van Dijk was employed On the quantitative level, correlation coefficients were used to show political connotations and deconstruct patterns of discourse and trends of escalation, according to a set of statistical rules such as linear regression analysis, analysis of variance, and cluster analysis, in addition to measuring the interaction between variables.
