Reflections of westernernizers on cultural interactions and their evaluation by N. I. Kareev

The article deals with the problems of mutual inuence of cultures in the historiosophy of Westernism and its assessment by N.IKareev, atheorist of world history, arepresentative of the positivist philosophy of history. It is shown that the reection of Westerners, as well as Slavophiles, on the issue of mutual inuence of cultures was carried out in two directions “Russia Europe” and “East West”. e dynamics of cultural dialogue is considered through the prism of the views of P.Ya.Chaadaeva, A.I.Herzen and T.N.Granovsky. It was revealed that in the intellectual line “Russia Europe” thinkers experienced similar experiences: acquaintance and admiration, then disappointment and criticism, nally, awareness of the merits of Russia and the attractiveness of the dialogue of cultures. In the line of reasoning “East West” dynamics is revealed: P.Ya.Chaadaev did not specify the concepts of “East” and “West”, A.I.Herzen outlined their geographical and mental dierences, and T.N.Granovsky connected all cultures in the context of the concept of universal history. It is concluded that N.I.Kareev extracted polyvariant judgments from the legacy of the Westerners and Slavophiles and applied them to his own construction of the philosophy of history.
