Development and improvement of the students' autonomous skills is viewed as an integral part of their professional pedagogical, methodological and linguistic education at the faculty of foreign languages. The usage of learning management systems as Moodle contributes to a more efficient process of organizing independent work, as well as the formation of students' professional competence. This article focuses on the development of a system of tasks for students' independent work in foreign languages classes within the framework of the academic discipline “Workshop on the culture of speech communication in English on the example of studying the professionally-oriented topic” “What Makes a Good Teacher”, created in the learning management system Moodle. These tasks function as a means of management of the autonomous learning process and formation of students' professional competence.
