The rapidly changing political and socio-economic context of modern life is becoming a threat to the physical and psychological health of citizens. It is possible to counteract the negative effects of the world around us only through accumulation of one's own personal resource and competent management of it, which is ensured by the formation of mindfulness. A high level of development of the components of mindfulness - the skills of self-regulation, self-reflection and empathy - makes a person's life activity psychologically safe and successful. Within the framework of the educational process the issues of health saving do not lose their relevance. Empathy helps to build bridges of effective and psychologically safe interaction between teachers and students. In foreign language education empathy can be developed when working with fiction. When writing a fictitious text, the author recreates real emotional situations, describes verbal and non-verbal details of human behavior using various language means. In the context of increased cultural exchange with the countries of Asia, Latin America and Africa, the dissemination of the Russian language and culture abroad is of particular importance. To solve these problems, open education centers teaching the Russian language (functional literacy) to adults and children are being opened in many countries. Empathy plays a key role in promoting equal cooperation, respect for the culture of other countries.
