Student Personality Development in the Process of Studying Contemporary Dance at Non-Specialized Universities in China

In this article, the object of research is the development of personal qualities of stu dents enrolled in a Latin American dance course at the Institute of Education of Qilu University (Qilu University of Technology). By applying methods of theoretical analysis, empirical research, and the synthesis of pedagogical experience, the author examines the mechanisms through which contemporary dance, specifically Latin American dance, influences the development of personal qualities among students at non-specialized universities, as well as the practical outcomes of this influence. The theoretical significance of the study lies in enriching interdisciplinary research on contemporary dance education and personality development theory, expanding the theoretical perspective on students’ holistic development at non-specialized universities, and providing empirical support for the concept that dance education contributes to personality development. The practical significance consists in offering specific frameworks for reforming the teaching of Latin American dance course and similar general arts courses in higher education institutions, assisting educators in optimizing teaching methodologies and enhancing the effectiveness of holistic development, as well as providing diverse pathways for students’ personal self-improvement. The study has demonstrated that Latin American dance course, which incorporate a variety of formats such as technical skills training, stage practice, and team interaction, effec-tively enhance students’ self-confidence, communication abilities, innovative thinкing, and levels of physical and mental health. This confirms that contemporary dance is an effective means of promoting the holistic development of students’ personalities at non-specialized universities in China.
