The article presents the possibilities of developing the research potential of students in the process of teaching the discipline "Sociolinguistics". The author shows that the inclusion of students in project activities in the form of a sociolinguistic experiment, followed by commenting on its structural components, can be regarded as one of the ways to accomplish this task.
