The article deals with actual issues of improving the level of academic literacy of students at the University. Academic literacy is expressed in the ability of students to quote, create texts of professional genres. Increasing the level of academic literacy of students and the development of their creative independence is one of the conditions for the implementation of the Federal state educational standard of higher education. The process of mastering the skills of academic writing is associated with the formation of professional and research competencies of students. For the successful entry of students into the research environment of the University in the first year of study it is necessary to have the skills to create academic writing, presented in such forms as essays, abstracts, coursework. The article presents the tasks of self-study and search character on the development of skills of successful mastering the language of the specialty, the ability to correctly interpret and produce professional text at practical training of the discipline «Speech practices» in the pedagogical University.
