The assessment of ancient and renaissance literature in the concept of tragedy of E. Montague

The article presents the analysis of the Chapter "On dramatic poetry" from the book by E. Montague, "An Essay on the Writings and Genius of Shakespeare compared with Greek and French Dramatic Poets" (1785), where the author forms the concept of tragedy on the basis of an assessment of works of antique and Renaissance literature.
