Role of testing center of the Republican Veterinary Laboratory in ensuring biological safety in livestock

The study is devoted to the analysis of Testing Center activity of Republican Veterinary Laboratory of the Republic of Tatarstan and its role in ensuring biological safety in livestock farming. Testing Center operates under the testing center regulations, in accordance with regional and federal legislation, and international standards. A systematic review of documentation, survey results of veterinary specialists and statistical analysis revealed that the testing center performs key functions: laboratory accreditation, methodological support for district veterinary laboratories, quality control of research and expansion of accreditation areas. The Testing Center consists of four specialists: a director, a deputy director, a veterinarian-metrologist and a veterinarian-quality manager. The Testing Center’s main activities include organizing in-laboratory control, conducting interlaboratory comparison tests, incoming inspection of reagents and equipment, and preparing test reports. Statistics for 2021-2024 show a significant increase in bacteriological (up to 147.6%), toxicological (up to 265.8%) and parasitological (up to 406.1%) testing. Particular attention is paid to research into particularly dangerous animal diseases, such as rabies, brucellosis, tuberculosis, anthrax and African swine fever. The Testing Center has established ongoing interactions with its research clients – large agricultural holdings in the republic and private farms. This interaction contributes to increasing the reliability of the laboratory’s research. The results confirm that the Testing Center’s activities directly impact biological safety in animal husbandry, preventing the spread of particularly dangerous animal diseases and thereby reducing economic losses in the republic. This study has practical value for improving the organization of veterinary laboratories and developing measures to enhance the quality of veterinary services.
